Slate, a combination of strength and finesse

www.ardoisieresdecorreze.com

Slate has both strength and finesse: it originates at great depths due to immense pressure and temperature.
Rough and delicate, it has a pure composition and complex multi-layered structure. Its fine grain stands the test of time at the top of monuments. It lends nobility and mineral tones to our schist soils.
Our wines are therefore testimony to the slate fault in Pays de Brive. On the border of the Aquitaine Basin and the Massif Central, the Vézère carves its gorges in the rock, through a hillside from 250 to 300 metres in altitude. Corrèze is home to the last of France’s slate quarries still in operation.
On the slopes of these hills, ideally facing from southeast to southwest, our vineyard extends over steep hillsides that were cleared by the first monastic orders over 15 centuries ago.
Fins, delicate, lively and full-bodied in colour with hints of gold, our wines reflect the elegance and mineral tones of slate schist. They are the fruit of a living terroir, both complex and ‘strong’ like Pays de Brive slate.
